Jozef Crosland

Jozef is a Research Engineer working on the autonomous underwater vehicle for mussel rope scanning. He has a background in electronics engineering, with special interests in computers, firmware and software development. He has a natural intuition for building elegant software systems that are easy and fun to work with.

He joined the UCVision team in July 2022 to design and build the electronics for a low-cost, controllable, high-brightness LED strobe system for the underwater drone’s machine vision camera system, as there were no off-the-shelf strobe systems that were controllable at a reasonable price point. The ROV’s custom strobe system has been an ongoing success and has improved the image quality in a variety of subsea illumination environments.

He now does a mixture of hardware and software development for the drone and is highly motivated as the project transitions from a research project into a commercial startup, ŪWAI Robotics.

He loves getting out on the boat for field trips as he loves the tranquil marine environment – and if the team is lucky – maybe the skipper serves up freshly caught pan-fried snapper for lunch!
